Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTDs)
RTDs are used to measure temperature by using a pure material wire, such as copper, nickel, or platinum, wrapped around a glass, ceramic, or other heat-resistant core. The devices are often delicate and housed in protective probes. This results in an accurate relationship between resistance and temperature which is used to provide the temperature measurement. They are used in multiple industries and in place of thermocouples in certain applications.
